Awaken Arts Spotlight

Los Angeles, CA is known for its stars, but within the big city I’ve found a hidden gem.

Meet Awaken Arts!

Founded by Christine Apa, Awaken Arts is a non profit organization created to help those affected by trauma process through it in a creative and abstract way. The organization has four different programs designed to help heal hearts and change lives. In 2014 the Construct and Create program was able to impact almost 6,000 people through rebuilding, translation services for intake in medical care, and implemented its own art programs for mothers and young children. And guess what? All of this took place in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan!

The Mission of Awaken Arts is as follows:

¬† ¬† ¬†Awaken Arts,¬†is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 2009. We use the arts as a healing tool for people that have been through traumatic experiences.¬†Our mission is to provide unique¬†arts programs¬†that fosters creative expression and collaboration, because we believe that when we create together, we heal together.”

The mentors of Awaken Arts help at risk youth verbally process their trauma while also engaging with them through various art forms:

  • Acting/Film

  • Music (Drums, Piano, Guitar)

  • Creative Writing (Poetry, Short Stories)

  • Songwriting

  • Vocals

  • Photography

  • Dance

  • Visual Arts (Mixed Media, Drawing, Painting)

¬† ¬† ¬†This program is honestly a true demonstrator of Social Responsibility, and this post only scratches the surface of all it’s capable of.
